New Delhi, March 17 (IANS). Due to today’s busy routine, proper nutritious diet and lack of exercise, physical muscles are becoming increasingly weak. Due to this, back pain, waist pain, weakness and digestive problems have become common. In such a situation, Mayurasana has been considered a powerful and effective asana, which helps in getting relief from physical problems.

‘Mayurasana’ is taken from Sanskrit language, which is made up of two words. ‘Mayur’ means ‘peacock’ and asana means ‘posture’. While doing this yoga asana, the posture of the body looks like a ‘peacock’.

The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has emphasized the importance of this asana. According to him, it is an advanced arm-balancing yoga move, which balances like a peacock. While doing this, the body weight is balanced on the palms while maintaining the balance of the body. While doing this asana, the body is raised above the ground, in which the elbows are near the stomach and the legs remain straight towards the back.

Doing asana regularly increases physical and mental strength and improves concentration and strength of the entire body. However, this asana may be a bit challenging for beginners. At the same time, it is said that before doing this, do some yoga asanas properly, like plank, chaturanga dandasana, bakasana, and other hand-wrist strengthening asanas. Also, in the beginning it should be practiced only under the supervision of a yoga instructor, because doing it wrongly can cause injury to the wrist or shoulder.

To do this, sit on your knees and join the toes of both the feet at the back. Lean forward and place both palms on the ground, fingers should be towards the feet. Bend the elbows and place them below the stomach on either side. Slowly spread the legs straight behind while bringing the weight of the body on the hands. While exhaling, lift the head and legs up, so that the entire body remains in the air parallel to the ground. Stop for 20-30 seconds in the initial days and gradually increase the time.

There are many benefits of this yoga asana, but people suffering from high blood pressure, hernia, heart disease or stomach ulcer should not do it.
