Amritsar, March 30 (). Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Monday said the police investigation into the death of State Warehousing Corporation District Manager Gagandeep Randhawa has once again proved that the state government intends to delay and dilute the case.
He said that BJP will intensify its fight for justice. Speaking to the media at an event organized on his death anniversary, Jakhar said that even after five days of police custody, the investigation is under doubt as the police are yet to recover the mobile phone and other important evidence, while the former minister was giving an interview to the media over phone on the day of his arrest.
He said that if the police were serious about conducting a fair investigation, they should have collected evidence immediately after the incident. Although the police have said that the pistol has not been recovered yet, sections of the Arms Act have not been included in the First Information Report (FIR). Similarly, sections related to threatening a government official and obstructing official duties have also not been added.
He said that the arrest of the former minister’s father and personal assistant till now exposes the government’s intentions. All these factors indicate that the government is trying to delay the case and gradually weaken it, with the ultimate aim of giving a clean chit to its minister. That is why the family, BJP and the people of Punjab are demanding a CBI inquiry.
Jakhar said that BJP will intensify its struggle to get justice for the family and will protest in Amritsar on April 4. He said that the accused should be given strict punishment for the injustice done to Randhawa and the struggle will continue until justice is provided.
He also said that the party will contact all the MPs and MLAs of Punjab so that they can write to the central government requesting a CBI investigation. He urged the Chief Minister to fulfill his moral responsibility and hand over the investigation to CBI.
