Eight female devotees lost their lives in a stampede at a temple in Nalanda, Bihar on Tuesday (March 31, 2026) morning. Apart from this, many people were also injured in this chaos. It is being told that many of the women who died were residents of Patna. There is a fear that the death toll may increase further. This incident took place in Shitala temple located in Maghara of Deep Nagar police station area. According to reports, the tragic incident occurred due to overcrowding and lack of proper arrangements. After the accident, relief and rescue operations have been started. At present, the administration has not officially confirmed the exact number of devotees who died.
Thousands of devotees come every Tuesday
It is worth noting that every Tuesday thousands of devotees come here to offer prayers. However, on this particular Tuesday, the security and crowd management arrangements appeared to have completely broken down. A huge crowd of devotees had gathered for the puja, when due to some unknown reason a stampede broke out. The exact sequence of events behind this tragic incident is still not clear. As soon as information about the incident was received, several ambulances reached the spot. Sub-divisional officer (SDM) also reached the spot.

About 10 to 12 devotees have been injured in this incident. The injured have been sent to Sadar Hospital for treatment. The temple complex has been completely evacuated. After the incident, heavy police force has been deployed in the area.
Today is the convocation ceremony of Nalanda University.
According to reports, Nalanda University is holding its convocation today. President Draupadi Murmu is scheduled to attend this program, which is being organized in Rajgir. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will also be present at the convocation ceremony of Nalanda University, along with Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary.
