Dausa. On the death anniversary of Colonel Kirori Singh Baisla, known as ‘Gandhi of Rajasthan’ and the messiah of Gurjar community, emotional tributes were paid at various places in Dausa district on Tuesday. In the main program organized at Devnarayan Temple and Gurjar Hostel under the auspices of All India Youth Gurjar Mahasabha, the intelligentsia and youth of the society remembered his struggles by offering flowers on the portrait of Colonel Saheb.
District President of Mahasabha, Satveer Chhawadi Sabalpura, while addressing the youth, reminded them of Colonel Baisla’s historical slogan – “Read and teach”. He said that Colonel Saheb was not only an agitator but a great social reformer. De-addiction campaign: In the program, an appeal was made to the youth to contribute to nation building by giving up the social evil like drug addiction.
Social Reforms: Special emphasis was laid on eliminating death feasts and other evils prevalent in the society.
Satveer Sabalpura said that Colonel Saheb’s popularity is not limited to any one area, but today people are remembering him in every gram panchayat of the district. The upliftment of the youth of the society will be a true tribute to Colonel Saheb. Advocate Padam Doi, District Spokesperson Narsi Doi, Major Subedar Kanchan Mal and a large number of social workers and youth leaders were present in the program.
Heritage conservation and youth leadership:
Colonel Kirori Singh Baisla not only gave political identity to the Gurjar community but also taught them to fight for constitutional rights. Talking about ‘de-addiction’ and ‘elimination of evils’ on his death anniversary shows that now the leadership of the society is not limited to reservation only and is moving towards internal reforms.
Politics of symbols and solidarity:
Dausa has always been the center of Gurjar politics. Through such events, Yuva Mahasabha also demonstrates its organizational strength. Statements like “Whenever the youth will rise, Colonel Saheb will be remembered” work to connect the society emotionally.
What dream remains unfulfilled?
If we look from a critical point of view, to what extent is the ‘education and organized power’ that Colonel Saheb dreamed about present in today’s youth? Many times it is seen that the death anniversaries of great men are limited only to taking photographs and giving speeches. The real tribute will be when the Mahasabha implements a concrete district-level action plan for drug de-addiction and education.
