Before doing any banking related transactions in April, it is important to pay attention to the holidays, as banks are going to be closed for a total of 14 days this month. The new financial year begins on the very first day of the month—April 1. Although banks remain open on this day, they generally do not attend to the needs of general customers as the staff is busy completing their internal financial closing processes.

Talking about holidays, banks in different states will remain closed for about eight days throughout the month due to festivals and special occasions. Apart from this, banking services across the country will also be affected on four Sundays in the month. Also, banks also keep holidays on second and fourth Saturdays. As a result, banking operations will be affected for a total of 14 days in April. Therefore, it is very important to check the list of holidays before visiting any bank branch to avoid any inconvenience.

Many bank holidays at the beginning of the month

The impact on banking services will start being felt from the beginning of April. On April 1, which marks the beginning of the new financial year, banks across the country will not conduct everyday transactions for general customers. The next day, on April 2, banks in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) will remain closed on ‘Maundy Thursday’. On April 3, which is ‘Good Friday’, banking services will remain closed in many cities like Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Bengaluru, Dehradun, Guwahati, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Delhi, Patna, Raipur and Shimla. Apart from this, banks across the country will remain closed on April 5 being a Sunday, and April 11 being the second Saturday of the month. There will be a weekly holiday on Sunday, April 12.

Many holidays in the second half of April also

Banks are going to remain closed for several days in the second half of the month also. On April 14, banks in various cities including Agartala, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna and Ranchi will remain closed on the occasion of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Baisakhi and other festivals. On April 15, banks in Agartala, Guwahati, Itanagar, Kochi, Kolkata, Shimla and Thiruvananthapuram will remain closed due to Bengali New Year, Bohag Bihu, Vishu and Himachal Day.

Meanwhile, on April 16, banks in Guwahati will not open due to Bohag Bihu. After this, banks in Bengaluru will remain closed on April 19 (Sunday) and April 20 on account of Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya. On April 21, there will be a holiday in Agartala due to Gariya Puja. Apart from this, banks across the country are scheduled to remain closed on April 25 (fourth Saturday) and April 26 (Sunday).
