A major report has been presented in Parliament regarding the safety and deaths of Indian laborers working abroad. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh told in the Rajya Sabha that thousands of Indians have lost their lives abroad between 2021 and 2025. Most of these cases have been reported from Gulf countries like UAE and Saudi Arabia, which is a matter of great concern for the expatriates. According to statistics, on an average more than 20 Indian workers are losing their lives every day.

Complete data and country wise information on deaths in Gulf countries

A total of 37,740 Indian workers have died abroad between 2021 and 2025, the Indian government said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. More than 86 percent of these deaths have been recorded in Gulf countries alone. The government does not have any detailed description of the causes of these deaths, but this number is increasing year after year.

Country Name Number of deaths (2021-2025) United Arab Emirates (UAE) 12,380 Saudi Arabia 11,757 Kuwait 3,890 Oman 2,821 Qatar 1,760

Regarding which problems did the workers lodge the most complaints?

During 2021 to 2025, Indian embassies have received about 80,985 complaints of abuse and exploitation from Indian citizens. Indians working in Gulf countries have faced many problems, for the solution of which the government keeps in touch with the local authorities.

Salary problem: The biggest complaint is not receiving salary on time or not paying salary at all.
Seizure of Documents: Passports of workers are confiscated by many companies.
work hours: Working very long hours without overtime and not giving leave.
Legal Help: Not getting exit visa and losing job due to company closure.
Government Efforts: The Government of India has signed labor cooperation agreements with many countries to protect the interests of workers.
