New Delhi, 17 September (IANS). The Indian Drug Special Secretary (DCGI) Dr. Rajiv Singh Raghuvanshi said on Wednesday that apart from healthcare professionals, patients should also participate actively in pharmacovislance.
He expressed his opinion on the subject in the fifth National Pharmacovislance Week held at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Center and highlighted the growing role of pharmacovizlane in Healthcare.
The Indian Pharmacopia Commission (IPC) of the Nations Coordination Center for Pharmacovislance Program of India (NCC-PVPI) began the National Pharmacovizlance Week. This week’s theme running from 17 to 23 September is “Your safety, just one click away: Report to PVPI”.
This week -long campaign aims to make healthcare professionals (healthcare professionals), regulators, researchers and general public to actively report adverse drug reaction (ADR) through digital platforms in simple style.
Raghuvanshi said, “From the beginning of the program, most of the reports have been given by Healthcare professionals, while meaningful effects can be achieved only when the patients are actively participating in reporting themselves.”
“We are one of the top contributors globally in reporting adverse events,” he further said.
Raghuvanshi said that despite the available data available for analysis, its optimal use still lacks pharmacovizlane.
In addition, he also said that “the contents of pharmovizlane needs a change in the country as per the changing environment in the country. Now pharmacovizlane has got a strong foundation and policies are being prepared and regulated.”
Raghuvanshi said, “For better results, we need to develop a culture of curiosity within the organization and not to apprehend. If needed, there is a need to promote different thinking, technology and smart integrations of new approaches.”
On the occasion, the IPC also unveiled several new initiatives, including the launch of a short film on PVPI, a pharmacovisilance comic published in many local languages to raise public awareness and a new online reporting platform designed for easy access via QR code.
