Hyundai Creta was the only SUV in the midsize SUV segment to cross the Rs 2 lakh mark, which is a growth of 3.6 percent as compared to 1,94,871 units in FY25.
The midsize SUV segment saw a lot of activity in FY 2026, but Hyundai Creta remained at the forefront of the segment. A total of 2,01,921 units were sold during the financial year, making it the only SUV in its segment to cross the Rs 2 lakh mark. This is an increase of 3.6 percent compared to 1,94,871 units sold in FY 2025 and with this its segment share has reached 16.5 percent.
The recently launched Hyundai Creta Electric has also added significant volumes, further supporting its already strong ICE lineup. Hyundai Creta can be bought with petrol and diesel engines. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 115 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque and is available with a choice of 6-speed manual and IVT automatic transmission.
The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine produces around 160 PS of power and 253 Nm of torque and is offered with 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT. Also, the 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 116 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque and has the option of 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Whereas Creta Electric has two battery pack options, which include 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. Its electric motor gives power ranging from 135 PS to 171 PS and torque of about 255 Nm depending on the variant. Price also plays an important role in the success of Creta. Prices for the ICE model start around Rs 10.79 lakh and go up to Rs 20.20 lakh, while the Creta Electric is priced between Rs 18.02 lakh and Rs 24.70 lakh (ex-showroom).
If we talk about the competition, Mahindra Scorpio stood second with 1,78,800 units, registering an annual growth of 8.5 percent. Whereas Mahindra Thar has achieved sales of 1,26,261 units with a huge increase of 48.8 percent. Mahindra Bolero has also continued to perform well and has sold more than 1.1 lakh units.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyrider has sold 99,890 units with an impressive growth of 65.4 percent. On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara saw a decline of about 30 percent in sales. Kia Seltos maintained its growth with 83,747 units thanks to the newly updated model. Apart from this, new models like MG Windsor and fully electric SUVs like Mahindra XEV 9e, Mahindra XEV 9S and Mahindra BE 6 have also started making their presence felt in the market.
