New Delhi, April 11 (IANS). Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Saturday welcomed the draft of the new electric vehicle (EV) policy of the Delhi government. He said that within three to seven years this policy will reduce the pollution caused by vehicles on the roads to negligible.

Sachdeva said that under the proposed policy, not only will private two-wheelers and four-wheelers get exemption in registration fee and road tax, thereby encouraging people to buy EVs for personal use, but the Delhi government will also promote the transition of commercial vehicles from fossil fuels to e-mobility (electric vehicles).

He congratulated the Rekha Gupta government for proposing huge relaxation in road tax and registration fees for electric cargo vehicles. He said auto-rickshaws are an important part of Delhi’s public transport system, and allowing only e-autos to be registered with full exemption from January 1, 2027, will help in making the public transport system cleaner.

Similarly, promoting electric vehicles in three- and four-wheeler commercial goods vehicles will also help in controlling road pollution, he said. The Delhi BJP President said that the most important thing about this new EV policy is that the Delhi government will now use only electric vehicles for its own work.

Apart from this, public transport buses and N1 category trucks will also be fully electric, which will reduce vehicular pollution on the roads by more than 10 per cent within two years, he said.

Earlier, with an aim to promote electric mobility, the Delhi government on Saturday placed its draft Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026 in the public domain to seek public feedback on proposals ranging from financial incentives to strengthening infrastructure, an official said.

The policy mandates registration of only electric three-wheelers in Delhi from 2027 and two-wheelers from 2028, and proposes comprehensive financial incentives, tax exemptions, mandatory provisions and strengthening of infrastructure to popularize EVs.
