Muhoozi Kainerugaba—son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and head of the defense forces—has demanded $1 billion from Turkey, as well as the country’s most beautiful woman to marry him. Kainerugaba claims that Uganda’s contributions to regional security efforts have not been recognized and, therefore, he is entitled to financial compensation.
Threat to break diplomatic relations with Türkiye
He also threatened that if his demands were not met, he would break diplomatic relations with Turkey within 30 days and close its embassy in Kampala. In a controversial comment, he demanded that Turkey hand over the country’s most beautiful woman to him, saying he wanted to marry her. In several posts on He stressed that while Türkiye profits from these projects, Uganda has been shouldering the burden of important security responsibilities for many years.
what kinerugaba said
Uganda has maintained a military presence in Somalia for nearly two decades—deployed under African Union missions—primarily to counter the al-Shabaab terrorist group, which is linked to al-Qaeda. He said Uganda should receive $1 billion from Türkiye as a “security dividend”. He commented that for Turkey, it is a very straightforward deal: “Either they pay us, or I will close their embassy here. They can do the same and close our embassy in Turkey. No problem.”
Kainerugaba stressed that relations between Uganda and Türkiye are a serious matter and should not be treated as mere social media drama. He warned that Uganda could soon break diplomatic relations with Turkey, saying, “We will very soon break diplomatic relations with them.” Accusing Turkey of mistreating Uganda, he said, “Why do you need a friend who constantly stabs you in the back?” He also advised Ugandans not to travel to Türkiye for their safety. Expressing support for Israel, Kainerugaba said, “I am ready to deploy 100,000 Ugandan soldiers to Israel to defend the Holy Land of our God, Jesus Christ.”
