The Indian Meteorological Department has claimed that India can expect more rainfall than before in this monsoon season.
“The rainfall is expected to be 103 percent of the long -term average in this monsoon season,” told reporters here, Director General of Indian Meteorological Department, Mrityunjay Mahapatra. In April, IMD said that there will be normal rainfall in the country. However, now IMD has claimed something else.
Releasing the updated long range forecast for the current monsoon season, Mahapatra said, “Most parts of the country will have well distributed rainfall activity.”
He said that mid and peninsular India may expect 106 per cent of long-term average rainfall, while the north-eastern region may receive less than normal rainfall.
IMD announced the onset of monsoon in Kerala on 29 May, which was three days before the normal beginning date.
