Saudi Arabia and Pakistan on Wednesday signed a formal defense agreement. The very next day, India said that it would “study carefully” from the point of view of its national security, regional and global stability. At the same time, India reiterated that it is fully committed to protecting its national interests.
The agreement is being seen in terms of distance from the US region, attack on Hamas leaders by Israel in Doha, the capital of Qatar, and the changing geopolitical status of the entire region. The agreement was signed by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. It said that “the attack on any one country will be considered as an attack on both.”
India’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said, “We were aware of the agreement. It was already under consideration and now formally. We will study its impact and are fully committed to protect India’s national security.” Although there has already been security support between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, India and Saudi Arabia have also become very strong in the last decade. India is cautious about the agreement, as it is close to it on one side, Saudi Arabia and on the other side is Pakistan, with which there was a four -day military confrontation after the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
Saudi Arabia also condemned the attack as the incident occurred when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on a visit to Saudi Arabia. After this, Saudi Minister Adel Al-Jubair came to India without announcement, when India took action on terrorist bases in Pakistan and PoK under “Operation Sindoor”.
