Bengaluru, April 22 (IANS). Karnataka political leaders on Wednesday paid tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack on the first anniversary of it and reiterated India’s resolve to fight terrorism and ensure that such incidents are not repeated in future.
Union Heavy Industries and Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that even after a year has passed, the pain and memory of this ‘brutal and barbaric’ attack continues to have a deep impact on the collective consciousness of the nation.
Paying heartfelt tribute to the 26 innocent people who lost their lives in the attack, he said that their memory further strengthens India’s resolve in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
Kumaraswamy stressed that terrorism cannot weaken the spirit of the country nor come in the way of peace, progress and national unity. He further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the nation’s commitment to fight terrorism remains firm and unwavering.
Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti V. Somanna said that a year ago, a brutal terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 innocent lives was an attempt to divide a nation that refuses to break. India remembers every soul and every sacrifice.
Somanna further said: healing for the injured, peace for the departed souls and strength, solace and justice for the families bearing this loss. We are united and any threat to India’s peace will be met with determination and decisive action.
Opposition leader R. Ashok said the country not only remembers those who lost their lives, but also carries forward their memory as a symbol of collective resolve and national unity.
He said that one year ago today, the land of Pahalgam was tainted by a cowardly terrorist attack. India does not forget, and India is not afraid. He further said that in this hour of mourning, the entire country stands strongly with the families of the victims.
