New Delhi. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said in an official statement on Friday that the sale of small 5 kg LPG cylinders is continuing across the country and a total of 17.83 lakh cylinders have been sold so far in the month of April, out of which more than 81,000 cylinders were sold recently. The ministry said that domestic LPG supply is completely normal and there is no news of gas dry-out anywhere. Additionally, 5.27 lakh PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections have been activated and infrastructure has been created for 2.60 lakh additional connections, taking the total connection count to 7.87 lakh.
About 5.97 lakh new customers have registered for gas connection. At the same time, more than 42,000 PNG consumers have surrendered their LPG connections through MyPNGD.in website.
Meanwhile, online LPG booking has reached 98 per cent, while delivery (authentication) through code on registered mobile number has increased to almost 94 per cent, thereby preventing fraud and theft.
The ministry said that despite the current international situation, priority is being given to supply of gas for domestic use.
On Wednesday, 8,483 metric tonnes of commercial LPG (about 4.46 lakh 19 kg cylinders) were sold, taking the total sales in April to 1,40,362 metric tonnes (about 73.87 lakh cylinders).
The statement further said that strict action is being taken to stop hoarding and black marketing of LPG across the country. Over 1.5 lakh raids have been conducted so far, and over 66,000 cylinders seized, while over 1,100 FIRs have been lodged and 255 people have been arrested.
Government oil companies have also increased their strictness and imposed fine on 298 LPG distributors and the license of 70 distributors has been suspended.
The ministry said that in view of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, necessary steps are being taken to maintain the supply of petroleum products and LPG in the country.
Citizens have been appealed not to panic and make excessive purchases of petrol, diesel or LPG and avoid rumours. Trust only official sources for correct information.
LPG consumers have been advised to book through digital medium and avoid visiting the distributor.
The government said that all the refineries are working at full capacity and there are sufficient reserves of crude oil. Besides, adequate stock of petrol and diesel has also been maintained. LPG production at the refinery has also been increased to meet domestic needs.
