New Delhi, April 25 (IANS). The heat wave is increasing rapidly across the country. The day temperature is continuously rising and the possibility of heat wave has also increased. In such a situation, the risk of heat stroke becomes highest. In such a situation, health experts give important advice to prevent this.
Heat stroke occurs when the body temperature rises too quickly and the body loses its ability to cool itself. This can also be fatal, so it is very important to be cautious during the summer season.
The National Health Mission (NHM) has appealed to the common people to take precautions to protect themselves and their families from heat stroke. This serious problem can be avoided by adopting proper prevention and first aid on time.
NHM has appealed to everyone to take special care of children, elderly and sick people during the summer season. Do not leave them in the sun for too long. Health experts say that heat stroke can be easily prevented with a little caution. To beat the heat, eat light food, use cold water and try to keep the body cool.
There are also easy ways to prevent heat stroke, such as avoiding doing heavy or strenuous work during the hottest time of the afternoon i.e. from 12 noon to 4 pm. Avoid going out. Drink adequate amount of water throughout the day. Even if you don’t feel thirsty, still keep drinking water little by little. Avoid drinks with high caffeine or sugar content like cold drinks, tea, coffee. These can further dehydrate the body. Wear light colored loose and cotton clothes. Dark colored clothes absorb more heat. While working outside, take a break in the shade every 15-20 minutes.
Pay attention to first aid if symptoms of heat stroke appear. If any person notices symptoms of heat stroke, such as dizziness, vomiting, high fever, unconsciousness or excessive increase in body temperature, then immediately make the victim lie down in a cool and ventilated place. Apply a cold compress or cold water compress to their body, especially the neck, wrists, and soles of the feet. Keep giving them small sips of cold water. When the condition improves, give light fruits or foods and juices with moisture.
