New Delhi. The Indian government is serious about its relations with the Gulf countries and is trying to improve them. The Ministry of External Affairs informed about the efforts through which the process of easing relations is going on. On Monday, during an inter-ministerial briefing on recent developments in West Asia, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “On the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has continuously enhanced its engagement and cooperation with the Gulf countries. The National Security Advisor paid an official visit to the UAE on April 25 and 26. He met the President of the UAE, where he conveyed the Prime Minister’s message and good wishes.” He further said that both sides discussed measures to further strengthen the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They also discussed the regional situation and other issues of mutual interest. This is the second high-level visit from India to the UAE within a month. Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had visited UAE on April 11 and 12. He met his counterpart and also called on the President of the UAE, where he expressed his gratitude for ensuring the welfare of the Indian community during the conflict.
Meanwhile, the Indian government has informed about the Iranian Coast Guard firing on a Togo-flagged ship on April 25. Some Indian crew members were present in this ship. According to the government, this firing was done as a warning.
Mandeep Singh Randhawa, Director of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways gave this information. According to the ministry, several ships were passing near Oman’s Shinas Outer Port, one of which was the Togo-flagged chemical tanker MT Sirone. An attempt was made to stop these ships and some shots were fired as a warning.
According to the ministry, all Indian sailors are safe. No Indian flagged ship has been harmed by the incident and the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions and maritime domain parties are in constant touch. No such untoward incident has been reported in the last 24 hours.
The government said that the situation is being monitored and there is no cause for concern at present.
