Mumbai, May 28 (IANS). For centuries, people have associated pulses with strength and health. Science also believes that pulses are a good source of protein. The special thing is that different types of nutrients are found in different pulses, which benefit the body in different ways. Some pulses are good for bones, some keep the heart healthy and some strengthen the digestive system. This is the reason why doctors recommend eating pulses daily.

Urad dal is considered very powerful in terms of nutrition. Along with protein, elements like iron, calcium, magnesium and potassium are found in good quantity in it. Urad dal helps in strengthening the muscles of the body. The fiber present in it makes the stomach feel full for a long time, due to which one does not feel hungry again and again. People controlling weight also include it in their diet. Calcium and magnesium present in urad dal are considered helpful in strengthening bones. Apart from this, the B-vitamins found in it help in providing energy to the body.

Kulthi dal, which is also called horse gram in many places, is rich in fiber and protein. This lentil helps in improving the digestive system and is considered helpful in reducing excess fat accumulated in the body. Many researches have found that horseradish dal helps in controlling blood sugar. The antioxidants present in it strengthen the body from inside and protect the cells from damage.

Red lentils are also considered very beneficial for health. Iron and folate are found in good quantities in it, which help in removing anemia. Masoor dal can be a good option for people who have low hemoglobin. This pulse gets digested quickly, hence it is considered good for children and elderly also. The fiber present in it helps in keeping the heart healthy and is helpful in reducing bad cholesterol. Its glycemic index is low, due to which it does not increase blood sugar rapidly.

Chana dal is considered a good source of strength and calcium. Along with protein, zinc, magnesium and iron are also found in it. It helps in strengthening the muscles and removing weakness from the body. The fiber present in it improves digestion and reduces stomach problems. This dal makes the stomach feel full for a long time, which reduces hunger. Apart from this, it also helps in maintaining energy in the body.

Moong dal is considered to be the lightest and easily digestible dal. Along with protein, potassium, folate and magnesium are also found in abundance in it. In summer it helps in cooling the body. The potassium present in it is helpful in keeping the heart and blood pressure balanced. Moong dal also helps in repairing the muscles of the body.

Arhar or toor dal is one of the most commonly used dals in Indian households. Folate, iron and protein are found in good quantities in it. Folate helps in forming new cells in the body and is considered very important for pregnant women.
