Expressing strong protest over the election results in West Bengal, TMC leader Mamata Banerjee insisted that her losing candidates were forced out as part of a conspiracy. He held the Election Commission, West Bengal Police, CRPF and the Chief Electoral Officer responsible for this result. He further alleged that more than 1,500 offices of his party were forcibly occupied.

remove me; I will not resign”: Mamata Banerjee

According to the report, during a meeting with TMC’s newly elected state MLAs, Mamata Banerjee declared: “After the incidents in Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party team is now united. I will not resign – even if they decide to remove me. I want this day to be observed as ‘Black Day’. We have to remain strong. On the first day of the assembly session, all TMC MLAs should wear black clothes. Those who have joined the party Betrayed, I am smiling. I am a free bird. Even if we lose, we will keep fighting.” **”It is the responsibility of the Election Commission to stop violence”: TMC**

TMC spokesperson and state MLA Kunal Ghosh commented: “It is the responsibility of the Election Commission to stop the violence. There is a clear contradiction between the allegations made by the BJP and the ground reality. The ongoing violence is damaging to the spirit of democracy. Mamata Banerjee’s refusal to resign is, from the BJP’s point of view, a symbolic protest against the ‘looting’ of seats. We have requested ‘Didi’ to take a final decision on whether the opposition Who will be the leader (LoP) and how will our party behave in the Assembly; we will also request him to assign some specific responsibility to each MLA in the Assembly.”

Process to form government begins in Bengal

After the declaration of the results of the assembly elections in West Bengal, the constitutional process to form the new government has officially started. Outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has questioned the validity of the election order and has refused to resign. State Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Aggarwal on Wednesday (May 6, 2026) clarified that the role of the Election Commission is limited only to conducting elections and declaring results; The process after that comes completely within the scope of the Constitution.
