Chennai, May 9 (IANS). In Tamil Nadu, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief C Joseph Vijay is going to take oath as the Chief Minister at 10 am on Sunday. Party sources informed on Saturday that Vijay can retain important portfolios like Home, Police and General Administration in the new government.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar formally called Vijay to form the government after he submitted papers proving majority in the 234-member assembly.
Sources said that in the first phase of cabinet formation in Tamil Nadu, nine ministers may also take oath along with Vijay. Before the ceremony, a possible list of ministers and departments has also been revealed.
Senior leader K.A. Sengottaiyan is expected to handle the Public Works Department (PWD), while N. Anand is likely to be given the municipal administration portfolio. CTR Nirmal Kumar can take charge of the electricity department.
Aadhav Arjun is expected to be given the Sports Development portfolio, while Raj Mohan is likely to become the Minister of Adi Dravid Welfare Department. VNS Mustafa is expected to handle minority welfare in the new cabinet.
According to sources, P. Venkataramanan may be given the school education portfolio, while Arun Raj may look after commercial tax and registration. Congress is also expected to get a place in the cabinet. Sources indicated that Congress leaders Rajesh Kumar and Vishwanathan could be made cabinet ministers.
TVK emerged as the largest party in Tamil Nadu elections, but missed the majority mark alone. After this, Vijay got the support of Congress, CPI, CPI-M, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), taking the number of MLAs of the alliance to 120. Which crossed the majority mark.
