A high-level meeting was held in West Bengal taking a tough stand against corruption at the administrative level. Secretaries of 41 departments attended this meeting, where a clear message was given to implement ‘zero tolerance’ policy on corruption.
Subhendu Adhikari, who was presiding over the meeting, directed the officials that transparency in government schemes and administrative processes should be the top priority. He said that corruption or negligence will not be tolerated at any level.
In the meeting, the functioning of various departments was reviewed and emphasis was laid on ensuring that the benefits of the schemes reach the public directly. The officials were also asked to further strengthen the grievance redressal system so that the problems of common citizens can be resolved in time.
Emphasizing on administrative accountability, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shubhendu Adhikari said that a transparent governance system is necessary to maintain public trust.
There has been political debate on the issue of corruption in West Bengal before, and this meeting is being seen as an important step in this direction. Political analysts say that such strict messages increase pressure on the administrative system and motivate towards reforms.
Although, there has been no official response from the government regarding this meeting, but this instruction is being taken seriously in administrative circles.
At present, the discussion of strict action and monitoring against corruption has intensified in the state, and its effects can be seen at the administrative level in the coming days.
