Porvorim, May 20 (IANS). In Porvorim, Goa, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale expressed his views on everything from the policies of the Central Government to the politics of the state. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Athawale said that the BJP-led alliance is in a strong position in the state and can win around 30 seats in the coming times. He says that the policies and development works of the government in Goa are getting public support.

He also mentioned the welfare of disabled people. Ramdas Athawale said that the government is working in this direction and in future, opening of separate government schools for disabled children will also be considered. He also said that they will be provided not only education but also other necessary facilities so that they can join the mainstream of the society.

He described tourism as the biggest strength of the state. He said that the mainstay of Goa’s economy is tourism and trade, hence it is necessary to promote it further. If development is done properly then both employment and investment can increase in Goa.

Talking about the country’s economy, Athawale said that India’s global ranking has improved after 2014 and the country is progressing rapidly. He said that despite international circumstances (tension in West Asia) and impact on oil and gas supply, India has maintained its economy. However, he also acknowledged that complete stability has not been achieved yet, hence savings and caution are necessary.

He said that PM Modi has emphasized on fuel saving and proper utilization of resources in the country. Athawale said that the Prime Minister himself has reduced the number of vehicles in his convoy, which has inspired other leaders as well. He says that this step is a good effort towards strengthening the country’s economy.

Athawale further said that starting the census work is an important step, especially the caste-based census is important so that the government can know the exact population of different sections and plans can be made based on that.

He also mentioned the ongoing government schemes for women, farmers and small industries and said that people are getting direct benefits from these. If big industries also come to a state like Goa, new employment opportunities will be created and local people will get economic benefits.
