New Delhi, June 6 (IANS). Former MP Adhir Ranjan Choudhary has written a letter to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav demanding to set up a railway coach factory in collaboration with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.
In the letter, Adhir Ranjan Choudhary said that he has received information that the Railway Ministry is planning to implement several development projects including railway infrastructure in the state. At such a time, he also mentioned his letter written to the Prime Minister on May 12, 2026, in which he had requested to take forward the proposal of setting up a railway coach factory in Murshidabad.
Adhir Ranjan Choudhary said that this project was proposed during his tenure as Minister of State for Railways. If this project is approved, it will provide large scale employment opportunities to thousands of unemployed youth of Murshidabad and surrounding districts.
He said that this factory will not only provide direct and indirect employment but will also create new possibilities for industrial development, economic progress and socio-economic transformation in the area. According to him, despite historical importance, border location and large population, Murshidabad is still facing challenges like industrialization and employment generation.
Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary said that the establishment of the Railway Coach Factory will promote supporting industries, develop the skills of local youth and strengthen the regional economy.
He urged the Railway Minister to coordinate with the West Bengal Government and approve this project on priority basis and announce it soon. The Congress leader expressed confidence that the announcement of this project will prove to be a historic step for the people of Murshidabad and will give a new direction to the development of the area.
