Dalian (China), June 22 (IANS). Artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics are opening up new possibilities for understanding human emotions and enhancing interactions between people and machines. This information was given by experts on Monday.
Talking to IANS ahead of the ‘Annual New Champions Meeting’ or ‘Summer Davos’ to be held in Dalian, China from June 23-25, experts told IANS that Artificial Intelligence is rapidly moving beyond data processing to understanding human behaviour, emotions and social interactions, thereby opening up new uses in healthcare, workplace, education and everyday life.
Cheng Xu, representative of Etonaton company, told about the interactive installation “Robots as Mirrors” created by designer and robotics researcher Madeline Gannon. The installation is a unique fusion of art, artificial intelligence and robotics, in which an industrial robotic arm responds to human presence and movement.
He told IANS, “We humans are adept at understanding each other through non-verbal signals like gestures and movements. That’s why we are trying to give some such qualities and a kind of personality to this robot too. When you go near it and say ‘Hi’, it will respond to you. But if you are too aggressive, it may even run away.”
CEC’s Yu Song introduced “Cloud Brain”, an advanced artificial intelligence system designed to analyze human emotions and mental states.
The AI-based platform uses facial expressions, eye movements, body language and behavioral signals to assess a person’s emotional and mental state in real-time.
The system can recognize whether a person is focused, tired, stressed, relaxed or happy, and displays this information on a digital dashboard. Developers say that this technology can be used in areas like healthcare, workplace management, education and mental health.
Smart Hans Coordinator Greta Ramirez presented an installation created by artistic researcher Max Harich that explores how artificial intelligence can understand the nuances of human behavior.
