Phagwara, June 21 (IANS). Under the leadership of Lovely Professional University (LPU) Chancellor and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Punjab’s biggest International Yoga Day was organized on Sunday, in which more than 12,000 participants participated and celebrated the 12th International Yoga Day.
On this occasion, BJP national president and Rajya Sabha MP Nitin Nabin was present as the chief guest. This was his first official visit to Punjab after taking charge of the party’s top organizational post. His stay in Punjab included participation in various programs in Jalandhar, Amritsar and Ludhiana aimed at organizational expansion and strengthening of public relations across the state.
Addressing the gathering, BJP President Nitin Nabin highlighted the global importance of Yoga and said that after India’s proposal in 2014 and its adoption by the United Nations, Yoga has expanded rapidly as a global movement. He said that the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have taken Yoga from the ancient tradition of India to a global festival celebrated in more than 190 countries. He said that the 12th International Yoga Day coincides with the completion of 12 years of Prime Minister Modi’s tenure, making the occasion even more special.
Based on a special “12-12-12” theme, the event marked the 12th edition of International Yoga Day, 12 years of global spread of Yoga under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and witnessed the presence of approximately 12,000 participants at the university campus. This theme reflects its breadth and importance as the central objective of the ceremony.
During the ceremony, Nitin Nabin, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal and all the distinguished guests present at the event installed a time capsule with their messages in the LPU campus, which will be reopened in the year 2047 to symbolize the achievement of the goal of a developed India. On this occasion, Chancellor Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal also administered the drug-free oath to more than 12,000 participants, under which they themselves pledged to stay away from drugs and make others aware about it.
On this occasion, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal said, “Our aim is to unite more than 12,000 people through Yoga and give a powerful message that health, wellness and internal balance can become a medium to unite the society and empower the nation. The global recognition that Yoga is receiving today is the result of the visionary thinking of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, through which India’s ancient knowledge tradition was taken to the world stage. This year’s theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Old Age’ gives us this As a reminder that yoga has the potential to improve the quality of life at every stage of life, we are especially inspiring the youth to make yoga an integral part of their daily routine.
