New Delhi, June 27 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that during its 2026 chairmanship of BRICS, India will work towards keeping the Global South at the center of a secure, strong, equitable and sustainable global energy future.

Sharing an article by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said that India believes that a strong energy system is built not only by effective domestic policies but also by strong partnerships at the international level.

Prime Minister Modi wrote, “On behalf of India, which is going to assume the presidency of BRICS for the year 2026, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has said in his article that India will try to keep the Global South at the center of a secure, flexible, equitable and sustainable global energy future.”

He said that this article also states that India believes that for a strong energy system, along with effective domestic policies, better cooperation between countries is also necessary.

In his article, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that the world’s energy sector is changing rapidly. At such a time, mutual cooperation and innovation have become extremely important for developing countries to maintain economic growth, energy security and environmental balance.

He said that India will strive to translate this shared vision into concrete outcomes during its Chairmanship of BRICS, under which cooperation between emerging economies will be further strengthened in areas such as energy availability, clean energy transition, new technologies and innovation.

Khattar said India has made significant progress in expanding electricity access, increasing non-fossil fuel-based power capacity and expanding renewable energy.

He said that India has already achieved more than 50 per cent of the total installed power capacity from non-fossil fuel sources, ahead of its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target.

The Union Minister said that India is taking several important initiatives like coal gasification, green hydrogen, electric mobility and expansion of electricity transmission network to strengthen energy security.

He also said that digital technologies like smart meters and India Energy Stack are playing an important role in modernizing the country’s power sector.

Manohar Lal Khattar further said that the different strengths of the BRICS countries complement each other. If these countries work together, a secure, strong and sustainable energy system can be developed.

He said that through strong international partnerships, BRICS countries can play an important role in advancing the interests of the Global South and developing long-term solutions in the energy sector.
