Lucknow, July 20 (IANS). Senior Samajwadi Party MLA Ravidas Mehrotra attacked the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments over the Ram Mandir donation controversy, protests in Delhi, the monsoon session of Parliament and the movement of social activist Sonam Wangchuk. He said that the government’s attitude in all these matters is not in line with democratic values and the opposition will continue to raise these issues.
Ravidas Mehrotra welcomed the Supreme Court’s action on the Ram Mandir donation theft controversy. Speaking to IANS, he said, “The court has given instructions to form a new Special Investigation Team (SIT), which indicates that the earlier investigation was not satisfactory. Now if the investigation is conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court, the truth of the entire case will come out and the culprits will be identified.”
He said that if the facts are revealed after the investigation, many big names can come to light. After this case, the moral responsibility of the state government should also be decided.
On the protest by students in Delhi, the SP MLA said that the youth across the country have been troubled by issues like examination system, paper leaks and employment for a long time. Police used lathi charge and tear gas against peacefully protesting students, due to which many students were injured. This shows the repressive policy of the government.
Ravidas Mehrotra said that many MPs from opposition parties had also participated in the demonstration in support of the students. Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav was also present during the protest and force was also used against her. The government is trying to suppress the voice of opposition.
Referring to the movement of social activist Sonam Wangchuk, he said, “An attempt was made to forcibly end the fast by removing her from Jantar Mantar. Sonam Wangchuk has said that she will continue her movement till the resignation of the Education Minister.”
Commenting on the proceedings of the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament, Ravidas Mehrotra said, “Due to the protests inside and outside the House, the proceedings had to be adjourned. The central government is avoiding discussion on the issues of the opposition. There will be a demand for discussion on many important topics in the coming days of Parliament.”
