Navratri fasting is a festival of deep reverence and faith. To get the blessings of Goddess Durga, devotees observe a fast for nine days and strictly follow certain rules. However, there are times when the fast is broken inadvertently for various reasons—an incident that often causes panic among devotees. According to the scriptures, if the feeling of devotion is true, then the mistakes committed unknowingly can be atoned for. The real importance of fasting lies not only in abstaining from food, but in true devotion towards Goddess Durga. Therefore, if the fast is broken inadvertently, there is no need to panic. Apologize
If your fast is broken accidentally, the first step is to seek forgiveness from Goddess Durga. Sit in front of the temple or place of worship, fold your hands and pray, and ask for forgiveness from your heart with all your heart for your mistake. Also, chant the mantra ‘Om Dun Durgaayi Namah’ 108 times using a rosary (chanting rosary). This reduces mental stress and reduces the impact of negative consequences associated with breaking the fast.
Perform small havan and sprinkle holy water
If you have committed a major mistake, you can perform a small *havan* (sacred fire ritual) at home. To do this, put offerings—made of camphor, pure ghee and *havan* materials—into a fire lit with mango wood, and chant the name of the Goddess. *After Havan*, sprinkle holy water (Gangajal) all over the house; This will fill the atmosphere of the house with positive energy.
donate and philanthropy
In Hinduism, charity (*daan*) is considered the greatest form of atonement. Therefore, if your Navratri fast is broken, donate white colored items—like milk, sugar, rice or white clothes—to a Brahmin or needy person as per your financial capacity.

Little girls are considered to be the form of Mother Goddess. Therefore, if your fast is broken for any reason, then feed food to two little girls (*daughters*) respectfully. After the meal, offer them fruits or any cash gift (*dakshina*) before bidding them farewell. Please remember: If your fast is broken due to a health issue, do not blame yourself for it. In such situations, maintain pure thoughts in your mind and continue your worship as per your physical capacity.
