New Delhi. In a significant step forward for automotive safety, Hyundai Verna has achieved an excellent 5-star safety rating in Global NCAP. This feat puts the Verna among the last batch of cars to undergo testing before the introduction of Bharat NCAP in India. This voluntary testing is a testament to Verna’s commitment to prioritizing adult and child safety standards. The vehicle tested with base specifications included standard features like electronic stability control (ESC) and six airbags, which are prerequisites to achieve a 5-star rating. According to the GNCAP assessment, the structure of the Verna exhibits excellent stability, ensuring strong protection in scenarios ranging from pedestrian safety to side and front impacts.
Hyundai Verna leads the list of safest cars with 5-star GNCAP rating
This achievement cements Hyundai Verna’s position at the top of the list of safest cars. Notably, it is the first Hyundai vehicle to achieve a 5-star rating. The evaluation took into account various aspects of safety, including head and neck protection for drivers, as well as limited knee protection for both the driver and passengers. The Verna competes with cars like the Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Slavia, both of which have also received a 5-star rating from GNCAP.
The recent launch of India NCAP marks a significant change in automotive safety standards within the country. With this development, cars manufactured in India will no longer need to take safety ratings from organizations like GNCAP. India NCAP, officially operational across the country from October 2023, will now lead the task of assessing and certifying the safety of vehicles in the country. India has joined the ranks of the United States, China, Japan and South Korea by becoming the fifth country to operate such an institution.
This initiative is set to bring a paradigm shift in the way safety is understood and implemented in the Indian automotive industry. This puts the entire responsibility on domestic manufacturers to prioritize safety in their design and engineering processes.
Commenting on this significant achievement, Dr. Rohit Baluja, President, Institute of Road Traffic Education, lauded the launch of India NCAP, saying, “This step empowers Indian consumers with the assurance of stringent safety standards, making us a global leader in road traffic education. Brings in line with the best.”
Rajiv Chaba, Chairman and Managing Director, Hyundai Motor India expressed pride in the Verna’s achievement, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to producing vehicles that prioritize safety without any compromise.
A new era for Indian automotive safety
The introduction of India NCAP marks a new era for automotive safety in India. With this organization at the forefront, Indian consumers can expect vehicles that adhere to the highest safety standards, ensuring a safe and secure driving experience for all.
