New Delhi. Kia India recently revealed several improvements to its beloved Seltos SUV, which includes cosmetic upgrades, new features and the introduction of a new 1.5L turbo petrol engine. Now, the company is preparing to launch the updated Sonet sub-compact SUV and the fourth-generation Carnival MPV. The much-awaited new Sonet is expected to hit the market in the coming months, while the new model Carnival is scheduled to be launched next year. Currently undergoing rigorous testing, the updated Kia Sonet is set to undergo significant changes both inside and out.
Recent spy shots show an attractive dual-tone (beige and black) upholstery, a brand new fully digital instrument cluster and an updated climate control module. This sub-compact SUV will also have Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technology with a 360-degree camera feature, although it is available exclusively in higher trim levels. The engine lineup remains unchanged, consisting of 1.2 liter naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0 liter turbo petrol and 1.5 liter turbo diesel engines. The 2023 Kia Sonet will continue to compete with cars like Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Hyundai Venue.
The upcoming Kia Carnival features a more angular design, including L-shaped headlamps and taillamps, updated front and rear bumpers and a new set of alloy wheels. Showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo under the KA4 moniker, this new Carnival model will sport a 30 mm longer wheelbase, offering an additional 40 mm of length and 10 mm of width compared to the existing model. With a massive cargo space of 627 litres, expandable to 2,905 liters with the rear seats folded, this MPV is nothing short of a marvel. Built on the new generation N3 platform, it is equipped with a 2.2L Smartstream turbo diesel engine that produces an impressive output of 199bhp and 450Nm. It integrates seamlessly with the three-row ADAS system. Comfort and connectivity features are in abundance, including a dual 12.3-inch screen setup for the infotainment system and instrument console, touch-sensitive buttons around the screen and reclining captain seats with adjustable backrest for the middle row.
This unveiling is a significant leap for Kia Motors, reflecting its commitment to innovation and a deep understanding of the growing needs of the Indian automotive market. With these updates, Sonet and Carnival are set to redefine the landscape of sub-compact SUVs and MPVs and set a new benchmark for styling, functionality and performance.
