Prototype very similar to the existing Jimny
In appearance, the Suzuki Jimny EV prototype is very similar to the existing Jimny. The boxy body, short overhangs, almost straight windscreen and upright stance are all seen in the current Jimny and are also being reflected in the upcoming Jimny EV. The biggest change in the Jimny EV test model can be seen at the front, where the grille portion is largely empty, which is normal in electric vehicles as they do not require large air intakes to keep the engine cool. Slim horizontal lighting elements are visible at the top of the front, and there are also holes at the bottom of the front bumper, which may be to keep the battery and electrical components cool.
Use of solid front axle
Looking at the spy shots of Suzuki Jimny EV, it can be said that solid front axle has been used in the prototype. This is a big detail because most electric SUVs in the compact segment have independent suspension, which gives priority to comfortable ride and city use over off-road performance. If the production version does offer a solid axle, the Jimny EV will be a step ahead of most of its electric competitors on rough terrain.
No information yet about engine specifications
Suzuki has not provided any information about any engine specifications for the electric Jimny. Talking about the current petrol model, it is a 1.5 liter four-cylinder engine, which generates 104.8 horsepower, along with it also has 4WD system and low-range transfer case. It remains to be seen whether the electric model will also have a similar 4WD layout. It may come with dual-motor setup. Suzuki’s e-Vitara already has an electric AWD system. However, it’s not clear whether that hardware will be tuned for the Jimny or not.
