Six new cars are expected to be launched in India in June, including an electric vehicle and four new SUVs. The latest entrant in the premium sedan segment to take on Honda City, Skoda Slavia, Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna Volkswagen Vertus will also be officially launched in the same month. While four carmakers have confirmed their launch dates or unveiling plans, one more is expected to announce its date soon.
Here’s a look at six new cars launching or debuting in India in June
Volkswagen Virtue
German carmaker Volkswagen will officially announce the pricing of its upcoming premium sedan Vertus on June 9. This is going to be one of the first launches of the month. The Vertus is the carmaker’s second product under the Bharat 2.0 project and is based on the MQB A0 IN platform. It is the longest car in the segment with a length of 4,561 mm and the largest boot space in its segment with 521 liters.
The car will be offered with a 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine with Active Cylinder Technology (ACT). It will also get the option of 1.0-litre TSI engine. Both will be equipped with passive start/stop system and will be mated to a range of gearbox options including 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic torque converter, or 7-speed DSG transmission option.
Citroen c3
The 2022 C3 SUV, which is set to be the second model from the French carmaker to launch in India after the C5 Aircross SUV, is likely to make its debut next month. The official launch is also likely to happen in June. The small SUV, which is expected to be an affordable offering that will rival the likes of Tata Punch, was unveiled by Citroen last year.
The Citroen C3 is based on the Common Modular Platform (CMP) with a wheelbase of 2,540 mm. Citroen promises that rear-facing passengers will also have ‘one of the best legroom in the segment’. There is 653 mm of legroom for the rear seats. Up front, there’s 1418mm for the elbows and 991mm for the headroom. The SUV also promises to offer ample storage space. It has boot space that can accommodate 315 liters of luggage.
The Citroen C3 is likely to be packed with two petrol engine options. Apart from the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine, Citroen could also offer a 1.0-litre turbocharged unit.
Mahindra Scorpio facelift
Mahindra & Mahindra is likely to unveil the 2022 Scorpio facelift SUV in June. The carmaker has been teasing the looks of the new SUV, indicating an imminent launch. According to reports, the Scorpio facelift SUV can be launched on June 20.
The new Scorpio will come with a redesigned vertical slate grille with C-shaped LED DRLs along with fog lamps. Mahindra will use a double-barrel headlight that is surrounded by a chrome underlining. The new Scorpio will also get a new set of wheels, which are likely to measure 18-inches.
Mahindra is likely to power the 2022 Scorpio with its existing 2.0-litre mStallion four-cylinder petrol and 2.2-litre mHawk four-cylinder diesel engines. The same engine has been used in Thar and XUV700 as well. The engines are likely to come mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed torque converter AT.
Hyundai Ionic 5
Hyundai Motor India has already listed the Ioniq 5 electric crossover on its official website. The Korean carmaker had earlier said that the Ioniq 5 will hit the Indian markets in the second half of this year. However, the official launch is likely to happen in the second half of the month.
The new Ioniq 5 will come out as part of the company’s plan to launch six electric vehicles in India by 2028. It will be launched as a CKD model in the country and will be based on the firm’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). ,
maruti suzuki Vitara Brezza
Maruti may bring another car in the Indian market. The long-awaited new generation Vitara Brezza is likely to be launched next month. Though Maruti has not confirmed any date, it is likely to happen by the end of the month.
Maruti is likely to upgrade the SUV’s design to make it more stylish. The carmaker is also expected to introduce new features that are currently in use in its latest models. These may include 360-degree camera, wireless charging, new touchscreen infotainment screen etc.
Maruti may also use the new K15C series 1.5-litre petrol engine that is capable of producing 103 bhp power and 138 Nm of peak torque. The engine is likely to be mated to a new six-speed automatic transmission in addition to the regular five-speed gearbox.
Hyundai Venue
According to reports, Hyundai will not wait any longer to launch its Brezza rival as well. The Venue sub-compact SUV is one of the best selling models in its category. The SUV, which has already been developed for the global markets, is likely to be launched towards the end of next month.
