Tata Sierra scored 31.14 points in adult safety test and 44.73 points in child safety test.
Tata Sierra has achieved a major safety achievement by achieving a 5-star rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP). It is priced between Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 21.29 lakh (ex-showroom) in the Indian market and has become one of the safest mid-size SUVs in India. This rating applies to both adult and child occupant protection.
In Adult Occupant Protection, this SUV has scored 31.14 out of 32, which is equivalent to a 5-star rating. It scored 15.14 out of 16 points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test, while it scored a full 16 points in the side movable deformable barrier test. 0.86 points were deducted in the frontal test because the driver and front passenger parts got ‘Adequate’ protection instead of ‘Good’. It has been given ‘OK’ rating in the side pole impact test.
In child safety protection, the SUV scored 44.73 out of 49 in the test conducted with dummies of children aged 18 months and 3 years. The 18-month-old dummy got 7.73 out of 8 marks in the frontal test and full 4 marks in the side test, while the 3-year-old dummy got full marks in both the tests. Thus the dynamic score was 23.73 out of 24. It got a full 12 points for child seat installation, although the overall score was slightly lower due to the Vehicle Assessment Score being 9 out of 13.
These crash tests were conducted on the Adventure+ and Accomplished+ variants, but this rating applies to the entire range Smart+, Pure, Pure+, Adventure and Accomplished. Tata Motors offers 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) as standard in this SUV. Apart from this, advanced safety systems like TPMS, 360-degree HD camera, Hill Descent Control (HDC) and 13 ADAS features are also provided in the top variants.
This SUV competes in the market with SUVs like Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq and Taigun. The new Sierra is built on the ARGOS platform. It has modern design elements with retro styling. The cabin has features like three-screen dashboard layout, dashboard soundbar with JBL sound system, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof and powered tailgate.
It has a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which produces 106 PS of power and 145 Nm of torque. Whereas the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine gives power of 160 PS and torque of 255 Nm. Apart from this, 1.5-litre diesel engine is also available which generates power of 120 PS and torque up to 280 Nm. Transmission options include 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
