Car sales figures in India have been released in the first month of the new calendar year 2026 i.e. January 2026, in which the dominance of the SUV segment is clearly visible. In this list, Tata Nexon has achieved the first position by registering the highest sales, while Maruti Dezire, Tata Punch, Hyundai Creta, Ertiga, Swift and Brezza were also among the top performers.
Tata Nexon has registered sales of 23,365 units in January 2026, a year-on-year growth of 52 per cent as compared to 15,397 units sold in the same month last year. Its strong safety rating, petrol-diesel-EV powertrain options and regular updates have made it the first choice of customers. Maruti Suzuki Dezire took second place with 19,629 units and registered a growth of 28 percent. Its popularity has further increased with the launch of the new generation.
Tata Punch stood at the third position with sales of 19,257 units, a growth of 19 per cent as compared to 16,231 units sold in the same month last year. Hyundai Creta took the fourth position with 17,921 units, although its sales saw a slight decline of 3 percent. Yet it remains one of the most popular midsize SUVs in India.
