Indian history is replete with tales of the luxurious life and beauty of royal families. There is a long list of beautiful princesses from these royal families. Out of which we are going to tell you about 10 selected princesses.
1. Indira Raje
Indira was the princess of Baroda. He was born on 19 February 1892. His father was Sayaji Gaekwad and mother Maharani Chimni Bai. She was married to Prince Jitendra Narayan of Cooch Behar. Whom she met in Delhi Darbar. She broke her engagement to Maharaja Madho Rao Scindia of Gwalior to marry Jitendra Narayan. He took this bold step at the age of 18. After the engagement was broken, her parents allowed her to leave India and go to London to marry Jitendra Narayan. He faced many tragedies in his life. Maharani Gayatri Devi was his daughter. Indira Raje spent the last part of her life in Mumbai. He died in September 1968.
2. Sita Devi Baroda
Sita Devi was the daughter of Maharaja Raja Rao Venkata Kumara Mahipati Surya Rau and Queen Chinnamba of Pitampura. Her first marriage was to Apparao Bahadur, a landlord of Vayuru, with whom she had three children. In 1943, at a horse race in Madras, he met Pratap Singh Gaikwad, who was the eighth richest man in the world at that time. Both fell in love with each other. Seeking legal advice to end her first marriage, Sita Devi converted to Islam and married Pratap Singh Gaikwad and became his second wife. From whom he had a son named Sayaji Rao Gaekwad. In 1956, Sita Devi divorced Gaekwad and moved to London. Sayaji Rao Gaekwad committed suicide in 1985, four years after which Sita Devi died.
3. Nilofar Hyderabad
He was born on 4 January 1916 in Goystep Palace, Istanbul. His father’s son-in-law was Moralizada Salaruddin. At the age of 16, she was married to Moazzam Jah, the second son of the last Nizam of Hyderabad. They got divorced in 1952 after 21 years of marriage. On 21 February 1963, Niloufer married Edward Julius Pope, a war hero, author and film producer. Niloufer died on 12 June 1989 in Paris.
4. Vijaya Devi
Vijaya Devi, born on 28 August 1922, was the elder daughter of Crown Prince Kanteerao Narasimha Raja Badiyar. She was adept in Carnatic music, dance and veena playing. In 1941, she was married to Thakor Saheb of Kotra Sangni. She was the founder and president of the International Music and Arts Society. He died on 8 December 2005 in a private hospital in Bangalore.
5. Maharani Mehtab Kaur
Mehtab Kaur, born in 1782, was the daughter of Gurubaksh Singh Kanhaiya and Saada Kaur. She was the first wife of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the founder of the Sikh Empire. They had three sons – Sher Singh, Tara Singh and Ishar Singh. Sher Singh was the founder of the Sikh Empire from 1841 to 1843. Maharani Mehtab died in Amritsar in 1813.
6. Queen Padmini
Queen Padmini was the queen of King Ratan Singh of Chittor. The existence of this Rajput queen is doubtful. Historians believe his existence on the basis of Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s epic Padmavat. According to Padmavat, his father was King Gandharva Sen of Sinhala Island and mother was Queen Champavati.
7. Rani Lakshmi Bai
Rani Lakshmi Bai, famous as the Queen of Jhansi, was born on 19 November 1828 in Varanasi. His father was Moropant Tambe and mother Bhagirathi Sapre. Their childhood names were Manu and Chhabili. Along with learning the scriptures, he also learned weapons. She was married to Maharaja Gangadhar Rao of Jhansi. She is a heroine of the first freedom struggle of 1857. At the age of 23, she achieved heroic feat in the battlefield while fighting with the British army.
