Imphal, 4 October (). The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has achieved great success with its vigilance at Imphal Airport in Manipur. On Friday, 21.36 kg of intoxication was recovered from the goods of two passengers going to Delhi by domestic flight. The two passengers were handed over to the local police after being detained.
The CISF team detected suspected goods through X-ray baggage inspection system (X-BS) during regular checks. The personnel posted at the Biren Singh International Airport in Imphal saw an unusual item in the bag of two passengers.
The two were then separated for a thorough investigation of the goods. In the investigation, 21.36 kg of intoxicating substance was found from his bag. The CISF took immediate action and seized the passengers and their belongings. Both were handed over to the Imphal police for further legal action.
The police have started preliminary investigation and have been sent to forensic lab to confirm the suspicious substance. According to preliminary information, this intoxicating substance was being brought to Delhi illegally. Police is conducting a thorough investigation about the identity of the passengers and their intentions. Drug trafficking has been a serious problem in Manipur and such actions are important in preventing it.
A senior CISF official said that his team is fully committed to the security of airports and drugs.
He said, “Our vigilance and use of modern technology can prevent such activities. This action is part of the national campaign against drugs. Manipur Police and CISF are working jointly in the case to detect the smuggling network.”
Both the accused are being questioned, so that other members and suppliers of the network can be detected. The security of the Imphal Airport has been increased and the investigation continues to search for other suspicious items.
