Bharatpur. Customers are not able to get 50% discount on Khadi clothes every year on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti (2 October). District Congress Committee President Dinesh Supa and Organization General Secretary and Bharatpur District Khadi Gramodaya Samiti Assistant Minister Yogesh Singhal have issued a joint statement and have seriously accused the BJP government of the state of not returning their rebate money to the Khadi institutions.
Congress leaders said that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot of the previous Congress government had started this scheme with the aim of promoting Khadi production and ensuring the reach of Khadi clothes to the common man, through which Khadi clothes were available to the customers at half the rates. Dinesh Supa said that the state BJP government has not returned the rebate amount to the Khadi institutions for the last two years. For this reason, all the Khadi institutions of the state have boycotted this 50% discount and at present they are selling Khadi clothes at the old rates only. Organization General Secretary Yogesh Singhal claimed that the entire Khadi institutions of Rajasthan owe the state government about Rs 100 crore for this 50% rebate. The government is postponing and not returning this amount. Highlighting the most serious aspect in this matter, Congress leaders said that due to non-receipt of rebate amount, many Khadi institutions of the state are not able to even pay salaries to their workers on time. As a result, many institutions are on the verge of closure, affecting the livelihood of rural and poor artisans.
Dinesh Supa and Yogesh Singhal termed this policy of the BJP government as a double trick and alleged that on one hand the customers are being lured by announcing 50% discount, while on the other hand the customers are being deprived of this discount by withholding money from the institutions. He alleged that this policy of the government makes it clear that it wants to completely destroy the Khadi production which was born out of the ideology of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Congress leaders have demanded Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Chief Secretary Sudhanshu Pant to immediately intervene in this matter and restore the 50% discount for the customers by returning their outstanding rebate money to the Khadi institutions.
