Chandigarh. Punjab Police has achieved a major success against drug trafficking. Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted an international drug smuggling gang. Police arrested two accused and recovered 10 kg of ‘Ice’ (methamphetamine) and 4 kg of heroin from them. Giving information about this success on social media platform ‘X’, Punjab DGP wrote that this gang was working on the instructions of a mastermind sitting in Dubai. Initial investigation revealed that both the arrested accused were in contact with a Dubai-based smuggler. This smuggler was operating the entire network from Abu Dhabi and Dubai. One of the arrested accused had recently returned from Dubai. According to the police, he was given training in Dubai to transport consignments of heroin and ice from one place to another. After that he was entrusted with the task of supplying these narcotics to Majha and Doaba areas of Punjab. In this case, an FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act at Chheharta Police Station in Amritsar. The police is now busy finding other links in this entire international network. Raids are ongoing to identify the remaining gang members and possible further recovery.
Punjab Police has given a clear message that it is fully committed to completely end drug trafficking and create a safe, drug-free Punjab. The DGP said that strict action will continue to break the supply chain of drugs in the state.
Anti-drug campaign has been intensified in Punjab for the last few years. Under the joint campaign of the government and the police, the crackdown is being continuously tightened on smugglers at international, national and state level. This action of Amritsar Police is being considered an important achievement against drug smuggling because dangerous drugs like ‘Ice’ were rapidly pushing the youth into drug addiction.
