New Delhi. Today the International Crime Tribunal Bangladesh (ICTBD) will give its verdict in the case of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The situation in Bangladesh is tense regarding this decision, in view of which shoot at site has been ordered in Bangladesh. Security has been tightened in Dhaka after Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali issued an order to ‘shoot at sight’ anyone attempting arson, cocktail explosion or causing harm to police and civilians ahead of the ICT decision on Sunday evening. Incidents of cocktail blasts and arson have increased across the capital during the two-day strike organized by Hasina’s Awami League on November 16-17.
Let us tell you, apart from murder, failure to stop crime and crime against humanity, Hasina’s then government has been accused of many things including ordering arrests and torture of students, extra judicial killing, firing, and lethal use of forces.
Bangladesh’s prosecution has demanded death penalty for Sheikh Hasina if she is found guilty. Let us tell you, this verdict will be pronounced against Hasina in her absence. The court had framed all charges against Hasina on July 10 this year.
On the day the court fixed the date for the verdict, arson and demonstrations were seen in many parts of Bangladesh. According to information shared by Bangladeshi media, strict security arrangements have been made since morning to prevent any untoward incident.
Several teams of law enforcement agencies, including police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), are patrolling key locations in the city. Movement of all types of vehicles has been banned on the road from High Court Gate to Doyal Chhatar.
Apart from this, law enforcers are checking every person entering the High Court and Tribunal premises. “The court will begin its proceedings at 11 am,” prosecutor Ghazi MH Tamim told the media.
Let us tell you, Sheikh Hasina’s government was toppled in a non-democratic manner in July 2024. After this Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh. Meanwhile, charges of murder and conspiracy were leveled against him. Dozens of cases were registered against Hasina.
The student movement started in Bangladesh in July 2024, which soon turned violent. Sheikh Hasina’s government was toppled under the guise of this so-called student movement. After this, in August 2024, former PM Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh and came to India.
Only after this, the interim government of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus was formed in Bangladesh. According to the UN report, about 1,400 people died in the violence in July.
