Dhaka, February 6 (). Five people, including a child, were injured in firing by unidentified assailants during election campaigning in Ali Khali Rohingya Camp area in Teknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Local media gave this information on Friday.

The incident occurred at around 8:30 pm (local time) on Thursday in Block A/04 of Camp-25 of Ali Khali Rohingya Camp. Bangladesh’s leading daily Dhaka Tribune reported that Teknaf Model Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Saiful Islam confirmed the incident.

The injured included two Rohingya and three Bangladeshi civilians. According to eyewitnesses, election campaigning was being done on a truck in Ali Khali area on Thursday night. Many people gathered near the vehicle, then some attackers opened fire on the truck, injuring five people.

Local media quoted a Dhaka-based human rights organization as saying that political violence is increasing rapidly in Bangladesh ahead of the elections on February 12. There has been a significant increase in the number of casualties in January 2026 compared to December 2025.

The organization Ain O Salish Center (ASK) shared information about an increase in political violence in January. Told that in 75 incidents, 616 people were injured and 11 people died. Another leading daily of Bangladesh, The Daily Star, reported that this was a huge increase compared to 18 incidents in December 2025, in which 268 people were injured and four died.

The findings showed that there was an increase in violent activities after the announcement of the election schedule and the start of campaigning on January 22.

ASK reported that there were 49 violent clashes between January 21–31, in which four people were killed, while 414 others were injured. This highlights a clear increasing trend as the voting date approaches.

The rights group said through documents that journalists have also been targeted amid increasing political violence; In December last year, 11 journalists faced attacks—this number increased to 16 in January.

Expressing concern over the increasing violence, the rights group urged political parties to exercise restraint and maintain peace during the campaign. It also called on law enforcement agencies to protect citizens and uphold their constitutional rights.
