New Delhi, 5 December (). A day after the death of eminent lawyer and former Mizoram Governor Swaraj Kaushal, his daughter and BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj immersed his ashes in the Ganga at Garh Mukteshwar on Friday.
Kaushal, an eminent legal expert and husband of late former Union minister Sushma Swaraj, died on Thursday afternoon, drawing condolences from national leaders and colleagues from the legal and political fraternity.
He was cremated on Thursday evening at the Lodhi Road cremation ground, where several dignitaries gathered to pay tribute.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief JP Nadda and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed grief over his demise and remembered his contribution to public life and his dignified presence in national affairs.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva offered floral tributes on behalf of the state units.
On Friday morning, MP Bansuri Swaraj again went to the cremation ground for the traditional ritual of collecting ashes.
She later went to Garh Mukteshwar with family members, where they performed ‘Pind Puja’ before immersing the ashes in the Ganga.
The ritual was attended by many public representatives and political allies, who came to console the bereaved family.
Ghaziabad MP Atul Garg, MLA Anil Sharma, Shyam Sharma, Neeraj Basoya, Umang Bajaj and Shikha Roy were present on the occasion.
On this occasion, many Delhi BJP officials including DDA member Rajiv Babbar, Delhi BJP media chief Praveen Shankar Kapoor, New Delhi District President Ravindra Chaudhary, Karol Bagh District President Virendra Babbar, media contact chief Vikram Mittal, councilors Sharad Kapoor and Anjum Mandal, former MLA Madan Lal and Delhi Cantonment Board member Rajesh Goyal were also present.
To honor the memory of Swaraj Kaushal, the family has organized a condolence meeting at PSOI Club, Chanakyapuri on Sunday, December 7 at 3 pm. Friends, colleagues and well-wishers are expected to come here to pay tribute to the late leader.
