Counting of votes continues in JNU student union elections, Left leads on 3 seats, ABVP ahead on 1.

New Delhi, 6 November (). The result of student union elections will be declared in Jawaharlal Nehru University on Thursday. Voting for the student union elections was held in the university on 4 November. In the trends emerging so far, the alliance of left parties is leading on three out of four seats. Whereas Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad is ahead on one seat. Candidates of left parties have maintained their lead on the posts of President, Vice President and Joint Secretary.

At the same time, the candidate of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad is leading for the post of General Secretary. Congress-backed student organization NSUI has also contested this election, but NSUI is lagging badly and is not in contest on any of the four seats.

It is noteworthy that various left organizations have jointly contested the JNU Students Union elections this year. Left organizations like SFI, AISA and DSF have come together in student union elections after a long time. Aditi Mishra was in the fray for the post of president from these left parties. Aditi Mishra is currently leading in the counting of votes so far compared to all other candidates contesting for the post of President. Left candidate Keezhakoot Gopika Babu also has the lead for the post of Vice President.

Sunil Yadav, the joint candidate of left parties for the post of General Secretary, is currently lagging behind. In the counting so far, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s candidate for the post of General Secretary, Rajeshwar Kant Dubey is continuously leading by a slight margin.

Left candidate Danish Ali has the lead over Joint Secretary. At present, counting of votes is going on on all four seats and it will take some more time for the final results to come. This year a total of 8 polling stations were set up in the university.

The voting process started at these polling centers of JNU from 9 am on Tuesday. Voting was conducted here in two different shifts. Voting for the first shift continued till 1 pm. After this, voting for the second shift started at 2:30 pm. This voting was held for the posts of President, Vice President, General Secretary and Joint Secretary of Jawaharlal Lal Nehru University Students Union and counselors of various faculties.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has won many counselor posts in various faculties. A total of 9,043 university students were voters. However, this time the total voting percentage in the university was 67 percent, which is slightly less than last year.

It is noteworthy that in the JNU Students Union elections, Vikas Patel was contesting for the post of President from ABVP. Tanya Kumari was contesting for the post of Vice President. Rajeshwar Kant Dubey was the candidate for the post of General Secretary and Anuj was the ABVP candidate for the post of Joint Secretary.

Apart from this, other organizations had also fielded their candidates in these elections. But, the main contest in the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union elections has been between the alliance of left parties and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

Talking about the final election results, the results of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union elections will be released today i.e. on 6th November. This year, information has been given by the JNU Students Union Election Committee on an official website. University students will be able to get live results and other official information through this website. Student organizations have raised many national, international and student related issues in these elections.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had raised issues like fellowship for research scholars, transparency of hostel allotment, expansion of Wi-Fi facility, and strengthening of academic environment in these elections. Students of every school and center of the university were voters in this election.
