Lucknow, November 1 (). There is a wave of mourning in the Hindi literary world. Famous poet, writer and former professor Ramdarsh Mishra passed away at the age of 101. He died at his residence in Gorakhpur.
Mishra ji, awarded Padma Shri, made invaluable contribution in enriching modern Hindi literature. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep grief over his demise and called it an irreparable loss in the field of Hindi literature.
According to CMO source, the Chief Minister said that the demise of Professor Ramdarsh Mishra is an irreparable loss in the field of Hindi literature. May Shri Ram give place to the virtuous soul at his feet and give strength to the bereaved family members to bear the sorrow.
Ramdarsh Mishra was born on 15 August 1924 in Dumri village of Gorakhpur district. After receiving higher education from Kashi Hindu University, he joined Sahitya Akademi and various universities. Active for more than seven decades, he wrote more than 150 books, including 32 poetry collections.
His major works are ‘Main To Yahan Hoon’ (Sahitya Akademi Award), ‘Banaya Hai Maine Ye Ghar Dheere Dheere’ (Saraswati Samman 2021) and ‘Bina Darwaza Ka Makaan’. These works beautifully depict the simplicity of rural India, the suffering of farmers and the duality of modernity.
Mishra ji was awarded the Padma Shri in 2025, which was an honor he received in the last years of his life. Litterateurs believe that his poems became a bridge to bring Hindi to the masses.
