A case of misbehavior with a female tourist from Mumbai by taxi drivers in Kerala’s famous hill station Munnar has come to light. After the video went viral, the police have registered their own case. The victim has been identified as Janvi, an assistant professor in Mumbai. In a three-minute video posted on social media, Janvi alleged that after reaching Munnar on October 30, local taxi drivers stopped her online booked cab.
She claimed that the drivers threatened her and said that online taxi services have been banned in Munnar due to “court orders”. Janvi told that she had booked an online taxi for Kochi and Alappuzha and reached Munnar in the same cab, but the drivers blocked her way and forced her to take a local taxi. In the video, Janhvi also alleged that when she sought help from the police, they supported the local drivers. Feeling unsafe, she cut short her journey and returned.
There was a lot of anger on social media after the video went viral. After this, the Munnar police itself took cognizance of Janvi’s allegations and registered a case. Police said the accused have been charged under sections of wrongful imprisonment and criminal intimidation. Officials said that efforts have been started to record the statement of the woman.
