Carwar, (Karnataka) 18 September (). The Karnataka police have arrested two persons for allegedly killing cows and throwing their bodies in a forest area of Bhatkal city in Karwar district. Officials gave this information on Thursday.
Both the arrested youths have been identified as Mohammad Saman (19) and Mohammad Rahin (20). Both were arrested on the basis of the complaint lodged by the forest officer.
A case was registered under the Karnataka Govadh Prohibition and Protection Act, 2020 at Bhatkal City Police Station.
Police have also seized the vehicle used in crime. Both the accused were produced in the court and sent to judicial custody.
This action was taken based on the complaint of Maruti, forest officer of Bhatkal subdivision. In the complaint, the official said that on September 11 at around 2 pm, the accused entered the banned Mugdum Colony Gudde forest area and threw the part of the cow’s body, including the skins, horn and bones, after allegedly killed the animal.
Based on the complaint, the Bhatkal city police registered an offense under Section 4 (12) of the Karnataka Cattle Slaughter Prevention and Protection Act, 2020 as well as Section 329 (3) of the BNS Act.
The Superintendent of Police of Karwar appreciated the police for resolving the case and catching the accused.
Officials and citizens in the state are constantly making efforts to stop cow slaughter. In August, 49 cows were rescued near the Bengaluru border and later shifted to a ‘cowshed’.
More than 100 cows and oxen were rescued in campaigns such as Gau Gyan Foundation in Bangalore during Bakrid in June 2024. In addition, Kankanadi police of Mangaluru district arrested three people in connection with the theft of cattle from Adyar on 13 September.
