Mumbai, January 19 (). Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde on Monday clarified that since Shiv Sena and BJP had fought the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections under the ‘Mahayuti’ alliance, the Mumbai Mayor will be appointed from the same alliance.
He further said that Mahayuti mayors will also be appointed in Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Ulhasnagar and all other places where they had jointly contested the elections.
No party got a clear majority in the BMC elections, and there was much speculation as Shiv Sena kept its councilors staying in a five-star hotel. However, clearing all doubts, Deputy Chief Minister Shinde confirmed that the Mayor in Mumbai will be from the Mahayuti alliance only.
He said that the citizens of Mumbai have voted with full confidence in the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance and Shiv Sena will not take any decision that violates this mandate. He also urged citizens not to believe any rumour.
Further, he clarified that in municipal corporations where Shiv Sena and BJP have contested the elections in alliance, Mahayuti mayors will be appointed. Dismissing rumors of new political equations being formed in Mumbai or other parts of Maharashtra, he reiterated that the Mumbai Mayor will represent the Shiv Sena-BJP-RPI grand alliance.
Earlier, Shinde, while addressing the newly elected BMC councilors staying at a luxurious hotel in the city, said that the opportunity given by the voters of Mumbai should be made golden.
He said go among the people, complete the pending works and prepare a clear development plan to make your ward the best ward of Mumbai.
He congratulated the 29 newly elected councilors from Mumbai.
He said that work should start immediately and full advantage of the opportunity should be taken.
Every councilor should try to make his ward the best ward of Mumbai. The Deputy Chief Minister directed the councilors to wake up early in the morning and visit their wards regularly.
He said that public welfare issues like sanitation, regular water supply and solid waste management should be given priority. There should be a strong emphasis on cleanliness, intensive cleaning campaigns should be carried out and visible changes should be seen in the wards.
He said councilors should prepare proposals for major infrastructure projects like markets, gymnasiums and sports complexes. Health services in the wards should be improved. Shiv Sena councilor should always be seen among the public. Public opinion should be understood and citizens should be made partners in development.
