New Delhi, January 18 (). With the initiative of the Indian Navy, the local residents of Lakshadweep have been provided necessary treatment by experts in Neurology, Cardiology, Nephrology and Endocrinology. 4,719 patients from Amini, Androth, Agatti, Kavaratti and Minicoy islands of Lakshadweep availed specialist and super-specialist consultation.

According to the Navy, for the first time in Lakshadweep, a wide range of expert treatment was provided in the medical camp organized on such a large scale. The camp included super-experts from Neurology, Cardiology, Nephrology, Endocrinology and Gastroenterology along with experts from Medicine, Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Dental Surgery, Radiology and Community Medicine.

Here, rapid deployment of medical teams and equipment was done, testifying to the high level of coordination and jointness between the three armies. Fully functioning medical facilities were established on each island. Systematic planning for air and sea transportation of health personnel and sensitive medical equipment was implemented. The effectiveness of inter-service coordination was seen in this. This significantly improved people’s access to advanced health services.

During the camp, comprehensive medical and surgical services were provided in all the islands. 51 common operating procedures were performed here, reducing the need to send patients to mainland hospitals.

71 cataract operations were performed in the ophthalmology department. The biggest benefit of this was given to the elderly people living here and the vision of many elderly patients was restored. Under the advanced diagnostic services, more than 50 endoscopic procedures, more than 50 echocardiography tests and several treadmill tests for cardiac evaluation were performed.

More than 250 ultrasound examinations were recorded in radiology services, while more than 100 dental treatments and more than 30 minor dermatology procedures were also performed, according to the Navy. All services and medicines were provided completely free of cost.

As a permanent contribution, the Indian Navy has donated two ECG machines to the health centers of Agatti and Amini. Along with this, information, education and communication activities were organized. Under these, extensive sessions were organized on preventive health, healthy lifestyle, cancer awareness, mental health and basic life support training.

Widely appreciated by the people of Lakshadweep and the Union Territory Administration, this Joint Services Multi-Specialist Medical Camp was recognized for its scale, professionalism and tangible impact. The program attempted to provide advanced medical services and strengthen preventive health awareness.

Through this effort the Indian Armed Forces once again strongly demonstrated its unwavering commitment towards the health and welfare of citizens in remote areas of the country. Indian Navy has successfully completed a five-day Joint Services Multi-Specialty Medical Camp held at Lakshadweep Islands. The camps were held in Amini, Androth, Agatti, Kavaratti and Minicoy islands, reiterating the commitment of the Armed Forces towards delivering quality health services and preventive medicine to the remote island communities. This initiative received strong support from the civil administration and health system of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
