Nowadays AI is in discussion everywhere. Be it Cloud or Gemini, with every new tool the fear is increasing that Artificial Intelligence can take away people’s jobs. Concerns are particularly high for white-collar jobs like coding, data analysis and software development. In such an environment, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has given a statement which has given a new turn to this debate. He says that instead of eliminating jobs, AI will create new types of jobs, and professional skills like plumbers and electricians will be in high demand.

Jensen Huang’s big statement in Davos
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Jensen Huang clearly said that it is wrong to assume that AI will eliminate jobs on a large scale. He acknowledged that automation will change the nature of some jobs like coding and software engineering, but that does not mean the work will disappear. According to him, the large data centers and tech infrastructure required to run AI will become a major source of new jobs.

An old internet joke may be true
There’s a joke on the Internet that people wanted AI to wash dishes and wash clothes so that humans could do the creative work, but it did the opposite. Now AI is creating art, and humans have to do household chores. Jensen Huang’s statement seems to suggest that this joke may come true in the future. He points out that in the times to come, there will be more need for plumbers, electricians and technicians than for coders. Surprisingly, people working in these professions can earn more than $100,000 annually.

AI boom will lead to historic infrastructure expansion
According to Nvidia’s CEO, the race to rapidly adopt AI around the world could prove to be “the largest infrastructure build-out in human history.” This will include the construction of new data centres, semiconductor factories, chip plants and AI-specialized units. To construct all these, more plumbers, electricians, steel workers and construction experts will be required than engineers.

Salary will increase in trade jobs, will give competition to tech jobs
Huang believes that not only will the number of jobs increase, but salaries in these skill-based professions will also increase rapidly. Many trades jobs now pay as much or more than traditional tech jobs. Due to the shortage of skilled workers, people working in chip factories and AI units can reach six-figure salaries.

The world of AI is not limited to engineers only
Nvidia’s CEO emphasized that the AI economy is not just for coders and researchers. As digital and physical infrastructure grow together, all skills will continue to be valued. In his words, “Everyone deserves a chance to live a good life,” whether they work in front of a laptop or on a factory floor.

AI will not eliminate jobs, but replace them
Although there is an atmosphere of fear around generative AI, Jensen Huang’s argument points to history. According to him, technology often does not eliminate jobs, but transforms them. As AI takes over repetitive tasks, humans can move into higher-value and new types of roles, even those outside of coding.
