Jammu, December 13 (). A full-scale dry run was conducted at Jammu Airport to prepare for fog. The exercise, which started at 10 am, was aimed at testing the operational preparedness of all airport related systems in low visibility conditions.

A hypothetical situation of poor visibility during the dry run was simulated, showing the operational scenario of flight VT-ZZZ being delayed by two hours at 10:15. As soon as this situation was created, all the concerned agencies immediately activated their respective fog management protocols. This successfully tested the process of effective coordination and timely information sharing between various departments.

As part of the exercise, the airside control team checked the runway and taxiway lighting systems, apron markings and other technical arrangements as per the fog preparedness manual.

Meanwhile, crowd management measures were implemented by terminal operations. By maintaining constant coordination with ATC, Meteorological Department and airlines, passengers were kept informed about possible delays.

As per the Passenger Charter guidelines, the concerned airline provided refreshments and water to the passengers in case of delay of more than two hours. A senior airline representative remained present in the terminal and regular announcements were made every 30 minutes. Special assistance provided to PRM passengers, senior citizens, elderly and passengers with special medical needs.

CISF ensured smooth movement of passengers by deploying additional forces at security check posts, while traffic police controlled vehicular movement towards the city to avoid unnecessary delays. Fire services deployed crash fire tenders and ambulances and technical teams confirmed the readiness of fog lights, communication equipment and emergency vehicles.

Speaking on the occasion, Director, Jammu Airport said that this dry run reflects the airport’s commitment towards safe, efficient and passenger-friendly operations during foggy weather.

He said that AAI, Airlines, CISF, Fire Services and all other stakeholders showed excellent coordination. The exercise was successfully conducted, confirming the preparedness to ensure safety, convenience and timely information of passengers during fog.
