Bathinda. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, while participating in a public meeting held in Bathinda today, appealed to the party leaders, workers and cadre to intensify their efforts to convert the second phase of ‘War on Drugs’ into a mass movement. He said that Punjab is leading the country’s decisive fight against drugs. Interacting with party leaders, workers and other cadre during the Lok Milni, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The state government has launched the second phase of the ‘War on Drugs’ with a clear objective of completely eradicating the scourge of drugs from Punjab. Big leaders of the previous governments had patronized the drug trade, but the AAP government has registered cases against 28,000 drug smugglers in the last one year, in which only 2000 drug smugglers have been convicted. The success rate has been 88 percent.” He said that this decisive action has given a new direction to the fight against drugs by winning the trust of the people. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The enthusiasm of the people is proof that we have come very close to winning this fight against drugs. Only a people’s movement can win this fight, not just police or government action. Previous governments encouraged the drug trade, but we have cracked down on it.” He said that the aim of the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign is to save the coming generations from drugs and its results will be visible soon.
He said that the need of the hour is to take concrete action against drugs on a large scale with a selfless spirit. This campaign is a form of war against drugs and through this the Punjab Government is committed to protect the youth, farmers, water and environment of the state. He further said that a comprehensive and multi-pronged strategy has been adopted to make Punjab drug free.
Giving details of the action taken so far against drugs, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The supply line of drugs has been broken, big smugglers associated with the drug trade have been sent to jail, treatment and rehabilitation has been ensured for drug victims and bulldozers have been run on the properties of drug smugglers.”
He said that this campaign will continue in the future also and he will not rest until Punjab is completely free from the stigma of drugs. He appealed to the party workers to seek active cooperation from the public, so that the results of this decisive fight against drugs are even better than the first phase.
Highlighting the achievements of the government, the Chief Minister said that the AAP government in Punjab has taken many people-friendly decisions. For the first time, canal water has reached remote villages of the state, thereby solving long pending irrigation problems. He said that the canals and Rajabhas, which were closed for many years, have been reopened and after 37 years, water has started flowing again in some areas.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann further said that farmers are now getting electricity even during day time and free electricity is being provided to 90 percent of the houses, which has reduced the financial burden on the people. More than 61,000 youth have been given government jobs in a transparent manner, without any recommendations or corruption. He said that the state government has closed 17 toll plazas, due to which the people of the state are saving about Rs 64 lakh every day.
Regarding health services, the Chief Minister said that to provide better health facilities, 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics have been opened across the state, where free treatment and medicines are being provided. Chief Minister Health Scheme will be started soon, under which cashless treatment up to Rs 10 lakh will be possible. He said that the exemplary steps taken in the education sector have been appreciated at the national level.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that a total of 118 Schools of Eminence are being established, which is being considered as an important step towards securing the bright future of poor children. Free uniforms are being provided to the students and free bus service for girls has ensured access to education to every girl child. He said that special coaching is being given for the preparation of armed forces and competitive examinations like NEET, JEE, CLAT and NIFT.
Expressing pride in the excellent results of the students, the Chief Minister said that 265 students from Schools of Eminence and other government schools have successfully cleared JEE Mains, 44 have cleared JEE Advanced and 848 students have successfully cleared the NEET eligibility test. He said that to improve the teaching capacity of teachers and principals of Punjab, they have been sent for training in world-renowned institutions.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the Road Safety Force formed by the State Government has been widely appreciated not only in the entire country but also in the Parliament of the country.
