Most people want to maintain a good balance in their bank account. But if someone accidentally deposits ₹50,000 in their account, it can be a big problem. Something similar happened with a Reddit user. ₹50,000 was deposited in his account. His phone started ringing and the caller started demanding his money back.
But instead of using UPI directly, the user asked the person to complain to the bank to get the money back. Then, the caller had a lawyer call the person and threatened legal action. The user shared his experience in a post on Reddit. In such cases, there is also a possibility of scam, due to which the user should proceed with caution.
His lawyer threatened legal action
In his viral post, the Reddit user states that he received a call from a person named Jadhav. The man claimed that he had mistakenly transferred ₹50,000 to her account and was demanding the money back. Instead of offering to refund the money, the man asked her to speak to her bank, saying he could not refund the money. The call got disconnected.
The Reddit user further explained that the next day, he received another call from his “lawyer” who threatened legal action if he did not return the money. I asked him to contact the bank. The call got disconnected. Now, I called the customer service of the bank and confirmed whether ₹50,000 was indeed credited to my account or not. As a precaution, I withdrew my money from that account and left ₹50,000 there.
Someone transferred ₹50,000.
I will go to the bank on Monday and withdraw ₹50,000. In this post written two days ago, the user asked what he should do next to resolve this situation. I do not want my bank to freeze my account for illegal/fraudulent activity.
On the Reddit page r/LegalAdviceIndia, a user posted a post titled “Someone transferred ₹50,000 to my account and is asking for it back through UPI”. It has received more than 500 likes so far, and hundreds of comments have been received on the post.
Same thing happened with me too!
Reddit users are giving advice based on their experiences. One user commented, “Same thing happened to me but with lakhs. And no one even called. I just got a message from the bank that this amount has been credited to my account. I called my bank and was told that it has nothing to do with me.”
He said okay, and I wanted to take it out; I could have given it in writing. I said I was available till next week. They said ok and reversed the amount automatically within two hours. Therefore, speak directly to your branch manager and do not take anyone else’s call.
